On Wednesday, November 7th, Austin’s Innovation District was recognized at the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) 2019 International Conference at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. Capital City Innovation Executive Director, Chris Laing accepted the Emerging Innovation District Award from AURP.
AURP is the global professional organization for academic-anchored research parks and innovation districts. At their 2019 International Conference, AURP brought together more than 260 delegates of innovation hubs across the world that are leading a new technology-driven economy.
The Emerging Innovation District Award by AURP highlights excellence and recognizes the work of Capital City Innovation’s stakeholders who are seeding the health and life science ecosystem and Austin’s Innovation District.

This award from AURP acknowledges the start of something exciting happening in Austin. The Innovation District will help to catalyze invention and collaboration in health and life science across Central Texas and beyond with the mission of creating new models of health and economic growth for all.
The site for the flagship building of Austin’s Innovation District is being prepared on the 14-acres of Central Health’s Downtown Property, the location of the former Brackenridge Campus. The 17 story building will house research and innovation from Dell Med, startup companies, and global corporations and is expected to open in early 2022.
The flagship Innovation District building will be located directly across from Waterloo Park which is set to open next Fall as the largest downtown park on Waller Creek and just across the street from the Dell Medical School.
